Es ist offiziell geplant, bis 2027 etwa 3,8 Millionen Tonnen pro Jahr der europäischen Ethylenproduktionskapazität (über 15 %) stillzulegen, ebenso wie 1,9 Millionen Tonnen Propylen. Am 5. Januar 2026 gab die Ethylenanlage von ExxonMobil in Schottland mit einer Kapazität von 800.000 -Tonnen-pro Jahr bekannt, dass sie im Februar geschlossen werden würde.
